Vera Mae Weyer, 97, of Sperry, died Monday, July 19, 2021.

Vera Mae was born July 13, 1924, on the Pilling Family Farm. Vera Mae was a homemaker with her husband and three children. She took part in their activities at church, school and Scouts. After their marriage at the Little Brown Church on Dec. 6, 1941, they lived in 11 different states, from Utah to Delaware, before returning to Iowa. They traveled in 44 different states.

Upon retirement in 1977, they returned to Iowa. Vera and John enjoyed volunteering at Midwest Old Threshers all year long and especially enjoyed the Reunion.

Vera was known for her beautiful hats and her favorite color purple. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing everything from suits to quilts.

Vera is survived by daughter, Judy Weyer; son, John C. (Marian) Weyer; and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Weyer, all of Sperry; grandchildren, John W. (Teresa), John J. (Sara), George (Beth), Charles (Dawn) and Elizabeth (Jonathan) Weyer Davis; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Gabriel, John T., Amaya, Elijah, Luna, Selena, Theodore and Henry; and nieces and nephews.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, John W. (Johnny); parents, C.E. and Lottie Pilling; brother, Ray; and son, Stephen.

A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at Kossuth Cemetery. Deacon Tracey Burgus will officiate.
