Verl L. Anderson

Verl L. Anderson, 71, of Mt. Pleasant, died at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2000 at the Henry County Health Center.

The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the Trinity Cemetery near Mt. Union. Visitation will begin after noon on Saturday, March 25 at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening. Memorials have been established to the Lion's Club?Leader Dog for the Blind Fund.

He was born in Henry County, near Winfield on Jan. 8, 1929, the son of Walter G. and Mary Leona Taylor Anderson. He received his primary education at the Pleasant Lawn School. The last six months of his formal education, he transferred to the Mt. Pleasant High School where he graduated.

On Nov. 9, 1947, he married Lorene Salyers at the Mt. Union Baptist Church. After their marriage, the couple began farming in Mt. Union. In 1958, the Andersons moved to Danville and farmed in that area. During that time, he began his work as a mechanic for the J.I. Case Company. Mr. Anderson continued working for J.I. Case for 22 years, retiring in 1991 as a shop foreman.

In 1972, the Andersons moved to Mt. Pleasant where they have resided since. He was a 15-year member of the Mt. Pleasant Lion's Club and was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant.

Survivors include his wife of Mt. Pleasant; two sons and their spouses, Jerry (Deb) Anderson of Latimer and Brian (Adina) Anderson of Cleveland, Ohio; one daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Sherri) McPheron of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren, Jesse Anderson of Webster, Texas, Tamara and Kirk McPheron of Mt. Pleasant, Ashley and Alexis Anderson of Cleveland, Ohio. Also surviving is one brother, Dean Anderson of Morning Sun. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Kevin Dean Anderson.
