Verna L. Spangler, age 94, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Crawfordsville, Iowa, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Collier officiating. The family will receive friends and family from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Interment will be held at the Crawfordsville Cemetery. Verna was born April 6, 1924 in Lockridge, Iowa, the daughter of John H. and Ollie M. (Erickson) Briggs. She graduated from high school in Lockridge in 1942 and attended the Ottumwa Beauty Academy. Verna was united in marriage to Harold F. Spangler on January 21, 1948 in Lockridge.

Verna was a resident of Crawfordsville until moving to the United Presbyterian Home in 1986. She was a self-employed beautician in Crawfordsville and later worked as a bank teller and bookkeeper at Peoples Savings Bank. Verna was a member of the United Church of Crawfordsville and of the American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered at the VA Hospital and Presbyterian Home.

She is survived by her son, Robert Spangler and wife Birgit Josenhans of Bainbridge Island, WA and daughter, Linda Spangler of Port Townsend, WA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in August 2007; and brother, Robert Briggs, in August 2007.
