Vernelda C. Slagel

      KALONA - Vernelda C. Slagel, 84, of Wayland died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, in Wayland from complications of heart attack and stroke.

      Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, in Sugar Creek Mennonite Church in Wayland with the Rev. Nathan Luitjens officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Creek Cemetery in Wayland. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the church where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Sugar Creek Home Missions and Parkview Home. Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.

      Mrs. Slagel was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Wayland, the daughter of Dan G. and Viola (Wyse) Widmer. She married Warren Stagel on Nov. 10, 1946, in St. John's, Mich.
