Vernon Warren Krueger, age 49, of Mt. Union and Washington, died instantly as the result of a severe auto accident on June 27, 2003. He was born August 20, 1953 at Quincy, Illinois to John Henry and Julia (Klingeman) Krueger. His childhood and early adulthood were spent on the Krueger family farm in Monticello, Missouri. Vernon was a 1970 National Honors Graduate from Highland High School, Ewing, Missouri. Following graduation he attended the University School of Agriculture at Columbia, Missouri. He graduated in 1975 with honors with a Bachelor of Science Education Degree and a Masters Degree in Education. Throughout his adulthood he continued to attend college classes that were of interest to him.
Vernon married Ellen Anne Forbes on September 6, 1975 at the First United Methodist Church in St. Charles, Missouri. To this union two children were born, Jessica Adele and Sallie Munro Krueger. For the last 26 years Vernon has taught at Hannibal and Memphis, Missouri and for the Mt. Pleasant Senior High School in Mt. Pleasant. In all of his schools he was the Future Farmer of America Advisor. He also worked as a referee for the Mt. Pleasant Community School District sports programs. In the past, Vernon worked for FMC-Seeds and Cargill Grains of Mt. Pleasant. He worked for Motorola and Celestica in Mt. Pleasant for the last 5 years. Vernon was active in the Mt. Union United Methodist Church, Sunday School and United Methodist Men. He was a member of the OddFellows and Rebekahs in New London. He enjoyed all kinds of sports, hunting and fishing activities. He greatly enjoyed his family and will be sorely missed by his grandchildren, Russell (age 3) and Chloe (age 11 months), as he was their PaPa. Vernon is survived by his wife Ellen Forbes Krueger; 2 daughters, Jessica Engle of Vilsek, Germany; Sallie Krueger of Iowa City; 2 grandchildren Russell and Chloe; 5 brothers and sisters and their spouses; Allen and Kathryn Krueger of Williamstown, Missouri; Jeanette and Paul Kepler of Lisbon, Iowa; Glenn and Sharan Krueger of Monticello, Missouri; Bernita and Wyverne Penn of Lewistown, Missouri; Marvin and Marjorie Krueger of Fresno, California; many nieces and nephews; He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 5, 2003 at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Union United Methodist Church, with Rev. Bob Hary, Rev. Mark Young, and Rev. Mike Shaffer officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the services. Memorials have been established for the Mt. Union United Methodist Church and the American Heart Association.
