Vesta M. Krieger

Vesta Marie Krieger, 93, of Mt. Union, died Monday, Oct. 8, at her home.

Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Elliott Chapel in New London. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Mt. Union Methodist Church, with the Rev. Sue Cubbage officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Mt. Union.

Memorials have been established to the Mt. Union Methodist Church and Alzheimer's Treatment and Research Center.

She was born on a farm in Des Moines County, on Aug. 6, 1914, the daughter of Artemus and Ola Woodsmall Smith. On June 27, 1934, she married Lauarel Krieger in Montezuma.

A graduate of New London High School, she taught at Linwood School for two years before her marriage. She later worked as a clerk in the New London Post Office with her husband, who was postmaster. The two were partial owners of Krieger Drug in Mt. Union. She was a member of the Birthday Club and Methodist Women at Church, a volunteer for the Iowa Welcome Center in Burlington, and worked as a news correspondent in the Mt. Union area for local papers. After retiring, she and her husband owned and operated Krieger Antiques. She enjoyed flea markets, antiques, books and glassware.

She is survived by three sons, Dennis Krieger and his wife Katie of West Burlington, Duane Krieger and his wife Dee of Shorewood, Ill., and Miles Krieger and his wife Deb of Burlington; and 10 grandchildren.

Her parents, husband, and sister Neva McNeil have preceded her in death.
