KALONA ? Violet Virginia Chalupa, 96, of rural Washington, died Monday, July 25, 2016, at her home.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 30, at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona with Chaplain Jean Wollenberg officiating. Burial will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be directed to the family or Hospice of Washington County.
Mrs. Chalupa was born Sept. 2, 1919, in Kalona, the daughter of Joe and Myrtle (Long) Vodicka. She married Glenn Chalupa on June 23, 1937, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
She grew up in the community and attended Lookout School and graduated from Kalona High School in 1937. She and her husband were tenant farmers until 1963, and decided to move to Loveland, Colorado. In 1990 they moved back to the farm where she was born. They had a love for the farm and enjoyed being back home. She was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church. She enjoyed all of her creative craft projects and visiting with her family and neighbors.
Surviving are two children, Kenneth Chalupa of Washington, and Virginia and husband Butch Johnson of Keyser, West Virginia; one granddaughter; two sisters, Margurite Lybbert of Denver, Iowa, and Rosetta Fry of Oskaloosa; and four nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, in 1991; and two brothers-in-law, Alton Lybbert, and Kenneth Fry.
