VIRGINIA CHAMBERLIN
Monticello, Ill.
Virginia Chamberlin, 94, of Monticello, Ill., formerly of Washington, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019, at Piatte County Nursing Home in Monticello.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, at St James Catholic Church, with Father Bennie Weir officiating. Following the Mass, her body will be cremated and interred at Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from noon until 2:15 p.m. at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington.
Memorials have been designated to St. James Catholic Church.
Virginia was born Jan. 10, 1925, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Redlinger) Hammen. She had most of her schooling at St. Elizabeth School in Harper. After graduation, she entered the retail business and remained in the business for 40 years. She was united in marriage to Dallas Chamberlin on Oct. 12, 1943, at St. James Catholic Church. She and her husband owned and operated Chamberlin Bros. Sport Shop.
She was a faithful member of St. James Catholic Church, Alter and Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters of America, Washington Historical Society and volunteered at Earthy Blessings. She enjoyed nature, walking in Sunset Park, reading, giving and sharing books, Scripture sharing, dancing and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindy (Steve) Welter of Mahomet, Ill.; sister, Jeanette Besser of Harper; brother, Keith Hammen of Kansas City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Cully Welter, Wendy Ummel and Stefanie Cantey; and nine great-grandchildren, Kaley Ummel, Kyler Ummel, Tyus Welter, Keegan Ummel, Aliyah Welter, Kendy Ummel, Madison Cantey, Kyara Welter and Trey Welter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Eileen; and infant daughter, Mary Christine.
