Virginia E. Doak Ramey, 101, of Ottumwa, died August 14, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society, Ottumwa, where she had lived since August 7, 2014. The entire staff gave loving care every day and the last few years she had dementia.

Virginia was born June 20, 1919, in Highland Center, IA, to Frank and Hillian Bender Doak. She was a graduate of Hedrick High School in 1937.

She married Robert L. Ramey on December 4, 1937, and he preceded her in death on November 8, 2001.

She and her husband owned a small grocery store in Pekin, IA, in the '40s and '50s and she was also a U.S. Postmaster in Pekin. Later they moved to Fairfield, where her husband worked at HyVee and retired from HyVee. In later years, they lived in Illinois and Ottumwa.

She was a member of the Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church and Arendt-Bowlin-Stubbs Post 83 American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are her son, Gordon L Ramey of Normal, IL; 4 granddaughters, Rhonda Ubben (Mike) Stubbs, Lisa Ubben (Jim) Kleinz, Michelle Ramey (Brian) Thede and Angela Ramey (Jamey) Kessinger; 9 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Regina Capps of Oskaloosa; and a daughter-in-law, Anita LaMonte.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Karen Ubben; sisters, Irene Bowlin Gullett, Geneva Daugherty and Frances Lint; and brothers, infant Dallas, Donald and Roger Doak.

Her body has been cremated.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Bloomington, IL.
