Virginia Ruth Atkinson

      Virginia Ruth Atkinson, 84, of Solon Nursing Care center in Solon, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Washington, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.

      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14 in the Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington with the Rev. Bob Voels officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials may be made to the Iowa City Hospice.

      Mrs. Atkinson was born May 6, 1924, in Washington, the daughter of Grant Harvey and Vivian Irene (Wikoff) Humston. She married Allen Patterson Atkinson on June 14, 1942 in Kirksville, Mo.
