Vivian P. Umphress, 76, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Savannah Heights in Mt. Pleasant.

Vivian was born on September 27, 1944, in Fairfield, Iowa, the tenth child of eleven of Escoe and Juanita (Bailey) Messer. She graduated with the class of 1963, from the Fairfield High School. She worked at the Dairy and then went to work for the Telephone Company. Vivian was united in marriage to Bob Hynd in Ottumwa, they later divorced.

She moved to Mt. Pleasant, and worked for the Telephone Company until she moved to Streator, Illinois, where she met and married Ivan Umphress. She worked for several years as a CNA at a care center. In 2015, Vivian moved back to Mt. Pleasant.

Vivian is survived by her sister, Catherine Gross of Mt. Pleasant; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, along with her stepchildren, stepgrandchildren, stepnieces and stepnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and eight siblings.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Don Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasantm where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. A memorial has been established by her family.
