Vivian Stilwell Allsup passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024 in Ohio where she had lived for the past two years. She was born in Oskaloosa to Roscoe and Della Hill Stilwell on February 12, 1937. She married her beloved husband, John Allsup on January 1, 1954. Together they raised a large and loving family.
A devoted homemaker, Vivian poured her heart into her family and her home. She had a deep love for animals, especially her Chihuahuas, dogs and cats and enjoyed gardening and flowers. There was always at least one potted plant in the house and she had a fondness for the beauty of the snow and the charm of the birds, which she loved to watch and feed. When younger, she even had a squirrel monkey!
Vivian had a kind, nurturing spirit. She cherished time with her children, especially during Sunday dinners, a tradition passed down from her own mother. She also found joy in watching TV, reading, and enjoying country music. She loved all her children in her own special way and found joy in the little moments of life.
Vivian is survived by her children; Mike Allsup, Della (Monica) Shaffer, Peggy Clark, Doug Allsup (all of Ohio), Chester Allsup of Georgia, Matt Allsup, Robert Allsup, Steve Allsup, and Mitzi Maggio (all of Iowa). She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John and by two daughters Cindy Allsup and Lucy Steele.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, located north of Douds, Iowa.
Vivian’s wish was for family and friends-especially those connected to her cherished hometown of Douds, Iowa-to attend her burial. She often spoke lovingly of Douds and its people, many of whom are connected to her family and memories. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
