KEOTA ? Voncile Henderson, 95, of Apple Valley, Minn., formerly of Keota, died Monday, July 20, 2015, in Ecumen Seasons at Apple Valley.
A celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 24, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for River Hills United Methodist Church or Susan G. Komen Cancer Fund. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
Evelyn Voncile Henderson was born April 22, 1920, in Higbee, Mo., the daughter of Thomas Raymond and Eunie Mae (Kennedy) Burton. She married William H. Henderson on July 10, 1941, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
She moved with her family to Salisbury, Mo., where she attended grade school. In 1930, the family moved to Washington, where she entered the sixth grade. She attended Washington High School through her junior year. Her parents owned and operated the Burton Café in Washington. In 1937 the family moved to Keota, where she graduated from high school in 1938. After graduating, she worked as secretary for C.D. Kirkpatrick at Walden Farm. She was a past member of Pythian Sisters, Rebekah Lodge, and Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Keota United Methodist Church, where she was president of UMW, served as treasurer for many years, was church secretary, sang in the choir, and served on many committees. She was a charter member of Chapter AV, T.T.T.; Martha Washington Questers; Daughters of the American Colonists; and James McElwee Chapter of DAR in Sigourney.
Surviving are one niece; one nephew; and two sisters-in-law, Donna Plock of Golden, Colo., and Barbara Hendrickson of Denver, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; one brother, in infancy; and one sister, Virginia Grimes.
