Wanda Brackey

MOUNT PLEASANT ? Wanda June Brackey, 99, of Wayland, died Friday, March 24, 2017, in Parkview Home in Waylad.

There will be no services held. Burial will be at a later date at Durham Cemetery in Durham, Illinois. Gifts of love and friendship for Parkview Activity Fund may be mailed to Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, P.O. Box 656, Mount Pleasant, IA 52641. Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel of Mount Pleasant has assisted the family.

Mrs. Brackey was born June 2, 1917, in rural Dallas City, Illinois, on the family farm, the daughter of Charles Irvin and Jeanetta Isabel ?Nettie? (Coffman) Smiddy. She married Joseph Konecki on Nov. 19, 1936, in Carthage, Illinois. Following his death, she married Marlin ?Mike? Brackey on Dec. 18, 1954, in Mount Pleasant. He preceded her in death in 1996.

She graduated from Dallas City High School. In her younger years she was a production worker at Sheaffer Pen in Fort Madison. She was then a secretary for various businesses including the Mental Health Institute in Mount Pleasant and the Juvenile Delinquent Department at the henry County Courthouse. Always a hard worker and not wanting to be idle, she completed her working career as a hostess at Buff?s Truck Stop during her 80s. She loved to shop. She enjoyed playing bridge and eating out with friends. A favorite pastime was taking a drive through the countryside.

Surviving are two daughters, Konnie Saliba and Denis Reid of Memphis, Tennessee, and Karen Springer of Bethel, Connecticut; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Pauline Smiddy.

She was preceded in death by both husbands; her parents; one daughter, Patricia ?Janie? Meyer; and nine siblings, Leah, Irvy, Ursa, Clarice ?Ivy,? Clifford, George, Glenwood, Florence ?Fern,? and Forrest ?Bud.?
