WAYLAND ? Wanda Evelyn (Pence) Hertig, 91, of Wayland, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, in Parkview Home in Wayland.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Eicher Mennonite Church in Wayland with the Rev. Dave Schooley officiating. Burial will follow at North Hill Cemetery in Wayland. An open visitation without the family present will be from 1 to 5 p.m., Monday, Jan. 18, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service, Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. A memorial fund has been established for North Hill Cemetery and Parkview Home.
Mrs. Hertig was born Sept. 8, 1924, in Delta, the daughter of Ross and Gertrude (Durst) Pence. She married Clinton Hertig on Jan. 1, 1946, in Washington.
She graduated from Washington High School and did secretarial work in the Washington area until her marriage. She was a homemaker and substitute cook at the Wayland and WACO schools. She taught piano and organ lessons and was organist at the Eicher Mennonite Church, where she was a member. She was also active in Women in Mission group and enjoyed quilting and cooking.
Surviving are one sister-in-law, Loreta Pence of Washington; one nephew; two nieces; three great-nieces; one great-nephew; one great-great-niece; and one great-great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clinton, on May 19, 2014; one brother, Wade Pence; and her in-laws, Harold and Velma Rixe, and Donnie and Jean Hertig.
