Wanda Marie (Jones) Skubal, 103, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, formerly of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Columbus Junction.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 21, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Mike Zahs officiating. Calling hours will begin 12 p.m. Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth, Iowa. Wanda was born, November 17, 1918, on the family farm in Louisa County, Iowa, the daughter of James and Lottie (Brown) Jones. Wanda attended Carson Country School and graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1936. She was the oldest living Alumnus of Ainsworth High School. She was united in marriage to Percy Edward Skubal on November 24, 1938, in Washington, Iowa.
Wanda was a homemaker and was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Washington. She enjoyed gardening, canning and taking care of her flowers. She was a talented seamstress and spent countless hours designing and making Barbie outfits that she sent to a doll museum in Indiana. Wanda had an interest in learning history and was proud to have been one of the oldest members of the "Iowa, Eye to Eye" class led by Mike Zahs.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie Schnoebelen and husband, Dale of Iowa City, Iowa; son, Ed Skubal and wife, Cindy of Columbus Junction, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Verlee Schneider of Columbus Junction, Iowa; sister, Marian Bell of Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Mary Jones of Columbus Junction, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; grandson, Jay Schnoebelen; granddaughter-in-law, Teresa Schnoebelen; brother, Ray Jones; sister, Lillian Chrisinger and her, husband Lindy; and brothers-in-law, Robert Schneider and Boone Bell.
