Wendell L. Hall, 88, of rural Packwood, died late Friday December 3, 2021, at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.
He was born September 12, 1933, in Louisa County to Floyd William and Letha Ann Bowden Hall. Wendell grew up in the Columbus Junction/Winfield Area and graduated from Wyman High School in 1950, then joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following the war, he graduated from Nashville Auto Diesel College in Nashville Tennessee. Wendell married Barbara Collett in Cedar Rapids on December 10, 1961. He was an auto mechanic for Chevrolet dealers for many years then opened his own auto mechanic shop for many more years and later worked for the Jefferson County Conservation Board. Wendell was a member of the Prairie View United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Justice Masonic Lodge No. 230 of Ollie and a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ollie Chapter No. 549.
Wendell is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Barbara; sons, Bradley Hall (Denise) of rural Packwood, and Gene Hall (Darcy) of Byron, Minn.; daughter, Anita Wolcott (Tom) of Niceville, FL; grandchildren, Jordan Molkenthin, Whitney Pacha, Cory Hall, Abby, Avery Wendell, Annika Hall, Austin and Tia Wolcott; great-grandchildren, Audrey and Abbey Molkenthin and Zoe Pacha; and two sisters, Peggy Buffington of Washington and Joyce Linthicum of Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Melba Grim, June Koepping and Jewell Dowell; and two brothers, Herb and Gary Hall; and an infant sister.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday December 8, 2021, at Prairie View United Methodist Church with Reverend Stephan Lamb officiating. Visitation will be immediately preceding the service beginning at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Richland Friends Cemetery with Military Honors by Richland American Legion Post No. 504. Memorials for either Prairie View Church or Jefferson County Parks may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 1092 Linby Drive, Packwood, IA 52580. Gould Funeral Home of Richland is in charge of arrangements.
