Wesley Allen Mullikin

Wesley Allen Mullikin, age 92, of Brighton, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at the Washington County Hospital.

He was born September 23, 1925 in Brighton, the son of Earl and Barbara (Rich) Mullikin. Wesley graduated from Brighton High School in 1943 and enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific theater in World War II. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Brighton and worked selling auto parts, performing auto repairs, and driving a school bus. He married Leila Mae Brown on October 29, 1948 in Independence, Iowa. She died June 28, 2007. He was a member of the American Legion and a local Brighton business owner for many years.

He is survived by one son, Robert Mullikin of St. Louis, Mo.; two daughters: Pam (Nick) Bloom of Marion, Iowa and Ruth Ann Mullikin of Ainsworth, Iowa; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leila; sister, Hazel Johnson; and brother, Leo.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday June 11, 2018, at the Brighton United Church with Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton. Visitation will be held at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon June 10, 2018. Memorials for the Brighton Volunteer First Responders or United Presbyterian Home may be left at the funeral home or church or mailed to the family at 603 Monroe Street, Ainsworth, IA 52201.
