Wesley "Wes" William Widmer, age 87, of Washington, Iowa, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, with his family.
Wesley William Widmer was born July 31, 1933, in Henry County, Iowa, the son of Daniel George and Viola Esther (Wyse) Widmer. He attended Prospect Country School and later attended Wayland High School where he graduated in 1951. Wes
was united in marriage to Elizabeth Crile on December 28, 1962, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Wes was an active member of the Washington Mennonite Church. He was a member of Y's Men's Club and was an avid fan of Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Chiefs. He loved traveling, family vacations, golfin, and, especially visiting with family, friends and neighbors. He enjoyed his collections and the Midwest Old Threshers.
He is survived by his wife, Liz of Washington; daughter, Lisa Widmer Maxwell of Tempe, Arizona; son, Bryan Widmer and wife Julie Olszowka Widmer of Elk Grove Village, Illinois; daughter, Beth Widmer Voss and husband Daniel Voss of Washington; and four granddaughters, Maggie, Abby and Grace Voss of Washington and Leynie Widmer of Elk Grove Village. He is survived by one remaining brother, Dale Widmer of Kalona, Iowa, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Wes was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Vernelda Slagel; and brothers, Galen, Clayton and infant twin Clinton, George, Willard, Stanley, and infant brother Blaine.
There will be no services at this time as his body was deeded to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine for scientific purposes.
