Willard W. Hemmings

Willard W. Hemmings, 79, of rural Farmington, died today, Feb. 4, at his home.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Farmington, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the First Baptist Church in Farmington, with the Rev. Philip Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Sharon Church Cemetery near Farmington.

Memorials have been established for the First Baptist Church and Hospice of Central Iowa.

He was born July 19, 1928, on the family farm near Farmington, the son of Archie and Ruth Adkisson Hemmings. On Sept. 18, 1949, he married Edith Evans in Farmington.

A lifelong dairy farmer, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Farmington, where he served as deacon.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Dean Hemmings and his wife Charry of Melbourne, Australia, Roger Hemmings and his wife Beth of Ottumwa and Keith Hemmings and his wife Susan of Farmington; one daughter, Nancy Helfinstine and her husband Alan of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one nephew and one niece.

His parents, one great-grandson and one nephew preceded him in death.
