BRIGHTON ? William C. ?Bill? Drish, 91, of Pleasant Plain, died Friday, July 1, 2016, in the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain with the Rev. Louis Leonhardt officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Prayers for a Christian wake will begin at 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 5, at the church, followed by visitation with the family until 8 p.m. General memorials may be left at the church or mailed to the family at the following address: Joan Beier, 2408 N. Seventh Avenue, Newton, IA 50208. Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Drish was born Aug. 13, 1924, south of Brighton, the son of George A. and Tresa E. (Polis) Drish. He married Betty Lou Conrad on July 10, 1947, in East Pleasant Plain.
He grew up in the Brighton and Pleasant Plain area and graduated from Pleasant Plain High School in 1943. He lived all of his life in the Brighton and Pleasant Plain area. He farmed, worked construction, worked at Lake Darling and other local jobs before he retired. He loved to play fast pitch softball and coach Little League baseball, and he was an avid Cubs fan. He was a World War II veteran and longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain.
Surviving are three daughters, Susie Drish and Barb Hood of Fairfield, Joan Beier and husband Rick of Newton, and Julie DeMoss of Woodbury, Minnesota; two sons, John Drish and wife Janet of Bettendorf, and Terry Drish and wife Angela of Pleasant Plain; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty, on March 28, 1996; two brothers, Charles, and Herb Drish; and six sisters, Marie Kessel, Evelyn Hughes, Anna Mae Stinson, Viola Gevock, Agnes Kurtz, and Frances Roberts.
