William D. Stucker
William Dwight Stucker, 86, of New London, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Great River Hospice Center in Burlington.
Visitation will begin at noon Friday, Nov. 2, at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 Saturday, Nov. 3, at Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church in New London, with Dr. Robert Watkins officiating. Burial will be at Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to Great River Hospice house and Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
William was born June 27, 1921 in Pleasant Grove Township, the son of William C. and Hannah Moehlman Stucker. On Jan. 12, 1955, he married Nettie Hipp in Packwood. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning the rank of Corporal.
A graduate of Yarmouth High School, he was a livestock and crop farmer with a special interest in walnut and oak trees. He was a former member of the Danville school board and Des Moines County Soil Conservation Board, as well as an active member of Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church, an elder and Sunday school superintendent.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, J.D. Stucker and his wife Pat of Danville and Dennis Stucker and his wife Diana of Liverpool, N.Y.; two daughters, Claudia Hoelzen and her husband Mike of Arlington, Texas and Linda Gerdes and her husband Dave of Normal, Ill.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
His parents; two sisters, Mary Shovar and Pat Thomas; and one brother, Wayne Stucker, preceded him in death.
