William E. (Bill) Peck, formerly of East Pleasant Plain, Iowa passed away on February 23, 2024, at the Parkview Home in Wayland, Iowa. He was born Aug. 29, 1928 to Paul Theodore and Rosalie Pauline (Kregoski) Peck in Jefferson County, Iowa and was raised on a farm south of Brighton, the youngest of 11 children.

Bill graduated from Brighton High School, then from Parsons College with a Bachelor of Science degree. He later earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Iowa. Bill taught at Germanville Rural School for a short time, then taught at the Fairfield Independent District 1955-1964. He taught grades 6-8 and was an Elementary Principal for 20 years. Then, for 17 years, he worked with the U.S. Postal Service serving out of Brighton and Ottumwa. Bill Retired in 1990. He was a Korean War Veteran with the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan in 1951.

Bill was a member of SS Joseph and Cabrini Catholic Church, and a longtime supporter of the Polishville Community Center, built in 1988. Bill helped lead its expansion to include the Esther Johanna Peck Museum in 1995. Bill dedicated his time to organize donations, annual bazaars, bingo luncheons, raffles and many polka dances at the community center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Adelyn Drish, Kasylda Lamansky, Louise Forbes, Laurine Armetta; an infant sister Catherine Peck, and brothers; Vincent Peck, Robert Peck, Sylvester Peck, Maynard Peck, and Joseph Peck.

A visitation will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Polishville Community Center, 1345 Tamarack Ave., Brighton, Iowa. Burial of cremains will follow at 11:30 A.M. at the Polishville Cemetery with Rev. Nick Adam officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Polishville Association and mailed to Dennis Drish, 2450 Sockum Ridge Road, Washington, IA 52353. The family wishes to thank the Parkview Home in Wayland, Father Robert Lathrop, and Mary Dohlman of Brighton, Iowa for their care and compassion.
