William "Howard" Clark, 83, of Fairfield, passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at Jefferson County Health Center, Fairfield, Iowa. Visitation for family and friends will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, at Behner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 1, at Behner Funeral Home with Pastor Gabriel Claussen officiating. Burial will be at
2 p.m. at Haines Cemetery, Centerville, Iowa. The service will be live streamed on Fairfield First Christian Church's Facebook page. During the visitation and funeral service, please follow the COVID-19 guidelines by wearing masks and social distancing.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Fairfield, Alzheimer's Association or ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Cards may be mailed to 1713 Brookville Rd., Fairfield, IA 52556.
Howard was born Oct. 19, 1937, in Centerville, Iowa, to Joseph C. and Mildred (Stites) Clark. He married Donna Lee Tait on Nov. 21, 1956, at the First Christian Church in Lancaster, Mo.
Howard was a P.M. Place Store manager in Corydon, Centerville, and relocated to Fairfield to open the store in the winter of 1962. He then worked at Wulff Furniture Store and started farming. Howard then started selling insurance at Midwest Benefit Consultant Inc., in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1988, he formed a partnership EBS (Employer Benefit Services) a Division of Holmes Murphy Des Moines, Iowa. He retired at the age of 79.
Howard was a member of the First Christian Church, Elks Lodge and Walton Club. He served as Chairman of the Church Board, was a 4-H Leader, and Chairman of Jefferson County Republican Party.
Howard will be missed by his wife of 64 years, Donna of Fairfield, Iowa; his children, William Howard Clark Jr. (Judy) of Tustin, Calif., Dawn Dillivan of Grimes, Iowa, and Chris Clark (fiancee, Sandy Tisor) of Mason City, Iowa; five grandchildren, Sergeant Nick Clark, Megan Dillivan, Alexis Clark, Allison Clark and Emily Clark; brother-in-law, Ronald Tait (Cherie) of Des Moines, Iowa; and sisters-in-law, Mary Clark of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Sara Tait of Centerville, Iowa. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph C. and Mildred; grandson, Philip Alan Clark; brother, Richard Clark; brother-in-law, Wendell Tait; and special Uncle Fred and Aunt Chloe Meyer.
