William Keith Lord, 69, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, April 14, 2022, following a lengthy illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Darren Brown officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Washington American Legion Post 29. Calling hours will begin 3 p.m. Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 5 to 7 Monday evening. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County, Bows and Bullets 4H Group, or Trials and Tribulations Ministry. William Keith Lord was born March 26, 1953, in Los Angeles, California, the son of Ronald Keith and Mary Irene (Edgar) Lord. Bill attended school in Washington, Iowa, graduating from Washington High School in 1971. Bill served honorably in the United States Navy from 1971 until 1974. He was united in marriage to Melinda Reed on February 14, 1975, in Washington, Iowa.
Bill and Melinda lived in Washington, Iowa, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Cleveland, Tennessee, before returning to Washington in 2010. Bill worked as a shift manager for a chemical plant for many years and was a National Safety Officer for the Civil Air Patrol. Bill was proud to have received his pilots license and enjoyed flying. Bill and Melinda enjoyed scuba diving, hiking, river rafting, and cave exploring. Bill and Melinda were both involved in Optical and Radio Astronomy where Bill served as the International President of the Society of Amateur Radio Astronomy. He was a supporter of all types of gun sports.
He is survived by his wife, Melinda Lord of Washington, Iowa; sister, Bessie Ann Lord of Stark City, Missouri; his in-law, Roger Reed, David Reed, Bernice Darby, and Nick (Sue) Reed all of Washington, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
