Willie Estil Stewart, 83, of Salem, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Klein Center in West Burlington, Iowa.
Willie was born on June 4, 1939, in Virginia, Illinois, the son of Alfred and Evelean (Mayhew) Stewart. He was a graduate of Salem High School. Willie was united in marriage to Mary Lou Stewart on April 22, 1961, in Davenport Iowa. She preceded him in death on August 11, 2020. After moving from Chandlerville, Illinois, at a young age, he made Salem his home.
Willie survived a car wreck at the age of 21 in 1960 that left him as a paraplegic. He beat all odds and continued a full life enjoying being a husband, father, brother and friend. Willie worked many jobs throughout his life including painting cars, mowing, along with painting gas tanks and vehicles for B&B gas. He filled his life with activities that brought him joy including road trips, simply taking a drive, games, derby racing, snowmobiling, lawn care and hanging out around his favorite town of Salem.
He is survived by his daughter, Tami (Jerry) Westman of Battle Lake, Minnesota; his son, Randy (Linda) Stewart of Salem, Iowa; three grandchildren, Alex Westman, Brandy (Nate) Albert and Austin (Allison) Stewart; one great-granddaughter, Effie Albert; four sisters, Maxine (Larry) Freeman of Bettendorf, Iowa, Wanda (Neil) Watts of Burlington, Iowa, Sandi (Ron) Benge of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and Brenda Baker Stewart of Queen Creek, Arizona; one sister-in-law, Linda Stewart of Pismo Beach, California; and four brothers, Jim (Mary Anne) Stewart of Rock Island, Illinois, Rick (Holly) Stewart of Coal Valley, Illinois, Don Stewart of Denmark, Iowa, and Gene (Pam) Stewart of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Lou Stewart; and three brothers, Sterling Stewart, Robert Stewart and Jerry Stewart.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. at the Salem East Cemetery in Salem. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Following the graveside service there will be a time of fellowship at the Salem Community Center. Memorials may be directed to the Salem Fire and Rescue Association in his memory.
