Wilma Davidson Howe Doan, 91, died Sunday, Nov. 11, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mt. Pleasant.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant is handling the arrangements.
The family suggests that any memorial gifts be made to Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mt. Pleasant, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Wilma was born Aug. 8, 1916 in Hillsboro, the daughter of Dr. James M. and Alta Davidson Howe. On March 28, 1951, she married M. M. Doan, Jr.
A graduate of Hillsboro High School, she earned a degree in education from Iowa Wesleyan College and was honored two years as an Iowa High School all-state basketball player. She taught high school English at Milo, Rathbun, Hillsboro, Salem and Harmony Consolidated Schools and directed high school plays until her retirement in 1978. She also coached girls high school basketball for many years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She and her husband farmed east of Hillsboro for many years. After retirement they spent many winters in Mesa, Ariz. Wilma was an avid reader.
She is survived by her husband, two nephews and their families.
Her parents, sister Florence Bellile, brother Lawrence Howe and his wife Mildred preceded her in death.
