WILMA LOU GREENIG
Fairfield
Wilma Lou Greenig, 78, passed from this life on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020, at her home with her family.
She was born on May 29, 1942, in Leroy, Kan., to Orville and Margaret Talley Iseman. They moved to Iowa when she was an infant and lived in several communities surrounding Fairfield. Wilma attended high school at Lockridge. In 1959, she married Radford Melcher. Together they had three children, Rebecca, Margie and Randolph. They later divorced. On July 29, 1978, Wilma married Arthur Greenig III in Fairfield. They just celebrated their 42nd anniversary.
Wilma was employed at J & B Plastics and later worked for many years in the produce department at Easter Foods. She loved flowers and gardening and could grow almost anything. Together, she and Art created beautiful flower beds and planted hundreds of trees on their acreage. She canned and made jellies from her garden but gave most of her produce away to others. Wilma was a very artistic and creative person and could turn simple trash into treasures.
Although Wilma was a homebody, she loved gatherings with family and friends. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Art; children, Becky (Rick) Porter, Margie Steele and Randy (Pam) Melcher; her grandchildren, Amber (Dan) Earnest, Shane (Jessica) Koontz, Sandra (Chad) Vice, Adam (Lyndsey) Melcher, Nathan (Shana) Steele, Amanda (Tyler) Hotz and Tori (Cale) Curoe; stepgranddaughters, Cari Porter and Casie (Adam) Bergman; and 26 great-grandchildren. Wilma also is survived by her siblings, Shirley (Ron) Louth, Betty (Phil) May, Carol (Richard) Seddon, Charlotte Farley, and Homer Iseman; and parents-in-law, Art and Claudia Greenig Jr.; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, JoAnn Iseman, Rose Ann Iseman, Paul (Lisa) Greenig, Cindy (Allen) Biggs and Elizabeth (Monte) Hunter.
She was preceded by her parents and brothers, Dean, Dale and Dennis Iseman.
The family will be eternally grateful to her hospice angels, Lynn and Liz, who enabled her to stay at home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Compassus Hospice Angels or the Hospice Help Program. They may be left at Behner Funeral Home or mailed to Art Greenig III, 1674 Old Hwy 34, Fairfield, IA. 52533. No services will be held. An informal gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date.
Online condolences may be made to the family at www.behnerfh.com.
