Woneta Olive Smith
Woneta Olive Smith, 95, of New London, formerly of Moulton, died at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5 at Elliott Chapel in New London. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Hardin Cemetery in Moulton. Visitation will be today after 3 p.m. at the chapel with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established.
Mrs. Smith was born on June 27, 1907, in Davis County, the daughter of George and Margaret Crom Bogle. She married Opher Lee Smith on Sept. 20, 1924, in Davis County, who preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 1972. She was a homemaker and seamstress. She was a farm wife, a woman of the prairie. She attended the Monterey Christian Church. She was a member of the New London Womens Federated Club, was very active in the Senior Citizens Club, did a lot of volunteer work with the mentally challenged and finished her last quilt at age 94. She was working on a quilt at the time of her death.
Survivors include three sons, Charles Smith of Marshalltown, Robert Smith of Mt. Pleasant, and Donald Smith of Ft. Collins, Colo.; two daughters, Christy Collins of Rockwall, Texas, and Janet Smith of Mt. Pleasant; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Worthy Bogle of Centerville; and a sister, Goldie Lydia of Bloomfield.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, a grandchild, three brothers and four sisters.
