I hope by writing this issue in The Journal, it will inspire parents and their children to realize the value of honesty and/or being a good example of honesty.
Recently we attended a high school band concert. The students and teachers are to be commended and thanked for the many hours that went into practice for the event, and we thoroughly enjoyed watching our granddaughter and the other band members that evening.
However, I was appalled and saddened when we then learned our granddaughter and another student had a cell phone and camera taken ? or stolen, to be more precise.
Whoever took these items walked into an unlocked room where students earlier had dressed for the concert, and helped themselves to these items.
I just wanted to bring this to our school community parents? attention and encourage your student or students, and if any of your students have items that do not belong to them ? perhaps if you know they have items not their own ? that you ask questions as to where and how they have these items. And if your student recently found an article, I would encourage you to talk with them and encourage such items to be returned to the students at the high school that they belong to ? for, after all, these items were taken from a public building and not found on the sidewalk or lawn. And whether or not the doors where the room that the items disappeared from could or should have been locked, is no excuse for theft to occur.
