Authors shaping minds

My husband and I are going on a small vacation next week to see Amanda Palmer in concert. She's one of my favorite singers and she just came out with a new album, which we will be getting shortly for the library. One of the songs that spoke to me on the album was Judy Blume. Palmer sings about how Blume's work affected her adolescence and how those lessons have made her the person she is today. I was too young for Judy Blume to be a staple in my adolescence, but there are other authors who have shaped my life. Among them are: J.K Rowling, Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, L.M. Montgomery, Jasper Fforde and Tamora Pierce. If you would like to have a better understanding of how my mind works, read these authors. The worlds that they created continue to transport me away from the trials and tribulations of life. They have taught me to see the magic in everyday life and that my imagination will always be a valuable asset. I urge you to revisit the books of your past that have influenced you or ask loved ones what books have influenced them. You won't regret it.

Every week we have Puzzle Club on Mondays and Coloring Club on Thursdays, both from 11a.m.-1p.m. On April 9 at 12 p.m., we will have Brown Bags and Books where Mimi Jacoby will be reading from Reflections by Rosa Parks. In celebration of National Poetry Month on April 15 at 6:30 p.m. we have a Creative Poetry Workshop and on April 20 we have poet Jules Wood visiting the Washington Writers' Workshop.
