To the Editor:
I was driving west on the four lanes and suddenly a little dog darted into traffic, causing screeching brakes and swerving vehicles.
I stopped to rescue her, then pulled into a gas station to check for an ID tag ? nothing. I then drove around the neighborhood in search of a frantic owner ? nothing. Deciding to check for a microchip, I drove to PAWS and More Animal Shelter to have her scanned ? nothing.
Suddenly a car drove up, gravel flying, and slamming to a stop. One person came into the shelter, grabbed the little dog from my arms, and rushed out. I followed. The one person turned and obscenely cursed at me with accusations of stealing her little dog.
Now, I generally tolerate most ill-mannered folk. However, when it comes to a poor defenseless animal, I tend to become a tad riled. The little dog desperately needed dental attention, and her fur was extremely matted.
Pet owners, please make a commitment to properly care for your pet (including spay and neuter) because love is not enough.
Thank you to PAWS and More Animal Shelter ? awesome staff!
