This year I was honored to be accepted into the Iowa High School Speech Association's Allstate competition for my improvisational group, along with one of the musical theater's groups. They performed 'Something Rotten.” My improv. group's prompt was 'first time at a twist class.” We made it somewhat realistic; we danced the twist, but we made the scene grimmer. My character took over the class and business. My partner's character was the owner of the studio.
This was my second year doing high school speech and my first year going to All-State. Throughout my high school career I tried new things and learned to love acting on the spot. Without the support from my supervisors at the library, I would not have had the courage to go out for the plays, musicals, and speech team. It has been so nice to have such a great support system from the library staff! Speech team, large group and individual has been a great experience that I will miss after I graduate. Through my almost four years of working at the library I have learned a lot of skills, a mix between professional skills and self-confidence. Without the self-confidence I have learned I would not have been able to perform as strongly. The library is an amazing place of employment, but more importantly they are a group of strong women who are teachers, mothers, and mentors.
