Editor:
After reading an article about the popularity this year of tiny turkeys for Thanksgiving, due to smaller gatherings, a family member said I should write a poem about it. Here it is, somewhat in the spirit of A Prairie Home Companion's Lake Wobegone:
In the Covid year of 2020
when the air with droplets became murky,
we met with fewer members, not plenty.
It was the Year of the Thanksgiving Tiny Turkey
Though in sheltered bubbles we were mired,
Zooming each day for school and worky,
good health for all was our desire
in the Year of the Thanksgiving Tiny Turkey.
Social distancing was a dance to practice
And wearing masks at first seemed quirky.
Clean hands, we got so good at this!
In the Year of the Thanksgiving Tiny Turkey.
Of it all we did grow tired.
It sometimes seemed we'd go bezerky.
We challenged ourselves to stay inspired
in the Year of the Thanksgiving Tiny Turkey.
We raised sanitized hands above,
and tried to keep our hearts uplifted and perky.
We gestured with elbows to show our love,
In the Year of the Thanksgiving Tiny Turkey.
Happy December.
