To the Editor:
It is time to bring the following information to the attention of the Mid-Prairie school district.
As we have been hearing, the Mid-Prairie District Administration Building has recently been condemned due to mold in the basement and to major structural issues. Having this building demolished is currently on the agenda by the current school board.
The Charles Polton American Legion Post No. 427 has offered to remove this building and refurbish it for the use of a new home for the post that currently has no permanent place to call home, after the Federation Bank building was sold 10-plus years ago. This move would save the school district the cost of demolition with the building being moved off the site for re-use by the Legion for new post headquarters, the good American way, not being wasteful.
Several of the school board members are set on destroying the building, saying, ?If it is not good enough for us, it is not good enough for anyone else.? We definitely beg to differ with this statement. This building is a perfectly good building with all the structural and mold issues left behind in the basement, as the basement would be removed anyway when the building gets moved off the premises.
The American Legion is an organization that values God, Family, Community and Country; and is comprised of wartime veterans desiring to promote these values and support other veterans. The American Legion is currently striving to become much more active in the local community under new leadership and has active school program involvement.
For a local organization like the American Legion desiring to re-use a perfectly good building and save a school district many thousands of dollars (which is all of us) is the ?true? American way of value and life.
We would like to see the complete school district come to the support of saving money, saving a building that still has much value and supporting the ?true? American way of being wise in how we spend our money and use our resources.
We ask you to attend the school board meeting on June 11, 2012, at 7 p.m. at the Mid-Prairie High School Library in support of saving this building from being demolished and seeing the building put back to good use.
