Not so fast on gun sanctuary

Supervisor Seward proposes a gun sanctuary within Washington Co. I say, not so fast.
Let us not disregard the preface of the Second Amendment, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State,. . ." I do believe we have an adequate defense in our well-regulated militia, our National Guard. Defunding the police is a right-wing misnomer to incite fear among citizens. No major candidate for state or federal office advanced this position.
I would like to hear Seward's evidence of any impingement on the rights of gun owners in the last three presidential administrations. I would like Seward to cite "soft crime policies" from our Washington County prosecutor. If Seward can present factual evidence, the commissioners might consider his resolution; however, barring evidence of these, why do we need this?
Our commissioners need to deal with the real needs of Washington County residents, infrastructure, public safety, public health, emergency management.
Please deal with reality, our climate is changing and the recent drought may continue for a long while. Are we ready for the next dust bowl? Are we proactive in preventing it? Are we ready for more active tornado seasons? We are not out of the woods from the COVID-19 pandemic, which will have long-term ramifications for care in our county. Do we have the capacity to care for many people with long-term COVID-19?
I would hate for a resolution to be passed that is not a real need when there are real needs in Washington County. Could this resolution be a cause for litigation against our county down the road? In my opinion, I'd rather the commissioners spend my tax dollars on something tangible; wouldn't you?
Without further evidence, Seward's proposal becomes a knee jerk reaction to having a Democratic president in the White House. President Obama never came for your guns and ammo. President Biden is not coming for them either.
