Vote ?No? to raising property taxes

To the Editor:
I support voting ?No? on the Aug. 2 bond referendum.
I believe our property taxes are to support services that benefit the public at large, such as schools, police, roads, sewers and such. The YMCA is a private organization requiring membership payment, and it does not benefit all the citizens of Washington.

I support voting ?No? on the Aug. 2 bond referendum.
I believe our property taxes are to support services that benefit the public at large, such as schools, police, roads, sewers and such. The YMCA is a private organization requiring membership payment, and it does not benefit all the citizens of Washington.
I agree, as most do, that the YMCA provides an important service in the community and is an asset to the community. However, I believe it should be funded privately, rather than a forced participation through property tax increase.
I also feel it is of note that only the City of Washington property owners would have taxes increased, rather than the larger area of the YMCA services.
