Parrott wins at Van Buren meet

KEOSAUQUA — Five area teams were at the Van Buren home cross-country meet on Tuesday night, and teams in the Union coverage area placed seven in the boys top 10 and four in the girls top 10, including overall girls winner Addison Parrott, of Danville-New London.

Parrott finished first by over a minute, crossing the tape in 19:34.75. Second place went to Davis County’s Sophie Spargur, who crossed in 20:57.39.

Van Buren’s Faith Neeley picked up bronze in the girls race. Neely finished roughly 16 seconds behind Sparger, coming home in 21:13.13. D-NL’s BreAnn Yaley took seventh, in 22:08.38, and Alexia McClure, of Cardinal, placed eighth, in 22:29.92.

Cardinal’s Allison Sloan was the second Comet to cross the finish line, getting there in 222:43.18 for 13th place. Makenzie Kraemer led Fairfield, placing 14th, in 22:53.55.

The final two area girls to finish in the top 20 were Fairfield’s Hailey Pohren-Gevock who finished 19th, in 23:35.68, and D-NL’s Allyson Farley, who made it home in 23:46.26.

Davis County’s Kenny Cronin dominated the boys’ race, winning in 16:08.18, just over a minute ahead of Holy Trinity’s Matt Hellige (17:18.78).

D-NL’s Ty Carr was the top Union area runner for the boys. He finished third place, in 17:49.31. Fairfield’s Alex Forrest finished right behind him, in 17:50.62.

Julian Alexander made it two D-NL runners in the top six. He took sixth place in 18:11.40. Bryan Wilkins of Fairfield was seventh, in 18:27.03. Winfield-Mt. Union’s Brody Barton was eighth, in 18:27.10. Jonah Heckenberg, of Van Buren, took 10th, in 18:32.65.

The Trojans placed five runners in the top 16 in the boys’ race. Kaidyn Mickels was the third Trojan to cross, finishing 13th, in 19:07.26, and Gavin Van Veen was right on his tail with a 14th-place 19:08.48.

D-NL’s Gabriel Gourley finished 15th, in 19:10.15. Blake Holden of Fairfield finished 16th, in 19:14.82. D-NL’s Mason Chipman was 17th, in 19:20.62.

The Van Buren duo of Ezra Sedore and Ian Peacock finished 18th and 19th respectively. Sedore crossed in 19:20.62, and Peacock crossed in 19:24.71. W-MU’s Dane Sweezer rounded out the boys top 20, taking 20th place in 19:27.86.
