L.O.V.E. Network
The L.O.V.E. Network is beginning its efforts to provide Christmas gifts to Marengo families in need. If your child receives free or reduced lunch or if you are experiencing a financial crisis, you are eligible to participate in this program.
L.O.V.E. Network applications are available at Iowa Valley Elementary, Iowa Valley High School, Iowa County Health Department, Marengo Iowa Public Library, Compass Memorial Healthcare (at Registration 1), and all local churches.
Completed applications are due by Nov. 4 to First Presbyterian Church Marengo Iowa at 902 Marengo Ave.
Library silent auction
Williamsburg’s Friends of the Library is planning a holiday gift silent auction. Anyone with an item to donate is asked to contact the library at (319) 668-1195. The auction will open Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. and close Saturday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m.
Make A Difference Day in W’burg
The Williamsburg High School chapter of FCCLA is offering free yard work and fall cleanup for elderly and disabled in and around Williamsburg on Make A Difference Day, Nov. 8. Volunteers will help with raking leaves, washing windows and other outdoor jobs.

Marengo FFA Fruit Sales
The Marengo FFA Chapter will hold its annual fruit sales through Nov. 4. You may order from any FFA member or online. Online orders are delivered to your home. Night on the Square
Williamsburg’s Night on the Square will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18. More information will be printed closer to the event.
Christmas parade
Marengo Community Development will host a Christmas parade square Saturday, Dec. 3, to kick off Jingle Around the Square. Floats are sought to participate and registration information can be found on the city of Marengo’s Facebook page.
The parade will begin at 4:45 p.m. The route will start at the intersection of Court Avenue and W. Lucas St. The parade will head south on Court Avenue, then east on E. Hilton Street, north on Marengo Avenue, and west on E. Main Street to stop at the North Pole (City Hall), where kids can grab their Jingle Bags and will kick off Jingle around the Square.
Iowa Valley early dismissals
During the 2022-2023 school year, the Iowa Valley Community School District will have a 1 p.m. dismissal every other Friday in order to allow more time for teacher collaboration and professional learning.
Early dismissals in November are Nov. 4 and 18. Please see the district calendar for a full list of the scheduled 1 p.m. dismissals. It can be found on the school’s website at http://www.iowa-valley.k12.ia.us
‘Our Neighbors, the Amish’
The Williamsburg Public Library will host a program at 1 p.m. Nov. 12 about the Old Order Amish and elements of their lifestyle and beliefs from birth to burial and everything in between. Don and Diane Kramer’s presentation comes from close interactions with the Amish, plus extensive research they’ve gathered.
This free event will be held in the lower-level meeting room. Questions may be directed to Sandy Jones, librarian, by calling the library at (319) 668-1195.
CMH Tree of Lights
Compass Memorial Healthcare will hold its Tree of Lights event on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Before the lighting, those attending will gather in the hospital lobby for music. Refreshments and fellowship will follow.
This event offers a way to remember your loved ones, in honor or in memory, by purchasing a light on the tree located outside the hospital for $10. White lights are in memory, and blue lights are in honor of loved ones.
Forms can be printed from Facebook, from www.CompassMemorial.org or picked up at the hospital gift shop or volunteer desk. Completed forms are due by Nov. 10 to the Compass Memorial Healthcare Foundation. Gifts are tax deductible and all proceeds will go to the CMH Foundation to provide for future health care needs for the hospital and its patients. Swaddling Clothes
Swaddling Clothes will be held the first Saturday of each month, from 9 a.m. to noon, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 780 Court Ave., Marengo, offering baby, children’s and maternity items. For more information, call (319) 642-5452 or visit swaddlingclothes.org
