Iowa Valley early dismissals
During the 2022-2023 school year, the Iowa Valley Community School District will have a 1 p.m. dismissal every other Friday in order to allow more time for teacher collaboration and professional learning.
Early dismissals in February are Friday, Feb. 10, and Friday, Feb. 24. Please see the district calendar for a full list of the scheduled 1 p.m. dismissals. It can be found on the school’s website at http://www.iowa-valley.k12.ia.us
Moped rider education course
The next moped rider education course through Kirkwood Continuing Education at Kirkwood — Iowa County Center is Saturday, Feb. 25 from 8 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. This safety education course for moped riders is designed for 14- and 15-year-olds who must complete a course prior to being licensed to operate a moped. Must be 13 years old or older to take this course. Preregistration is required. Bring a sack lunch for a 15-minute break. Call the Iowa County center, Williamsburg, at 319-668-2461 for registration information. Course number is CTRV-0500.
Drought Disaster Program Meetings
Drought Disaster Program informational meetings will be held at the Iowa County Service Center (435 N Highland St, Williamsburg) once a week through March 15. FSA County Director Jennifer Ness and NRCS District Conservationist Joe Dixon have compiled an informational presentation on all drought programs/resources the USDA has available.
Iowa County reached D2 Drought status in 2021 and 2022. If the drought conditions persist, producers should remain cognizant of local resources that could help their operation. Space is limited, please contact the office at 319-668-2010 to RSVP to any one of the following meetings. If you can't make the meeting, but would like the presentation handout, please contact Jennifer or Joe.
Meetings will be held as follows: every Wednesday in February at 1 p.m.; every Wednesday in March through the15th at 1 p.m.
Iowa DNR License Terminal
Effective Monday, Jan. 16, the Iowa DNR licensing terminal has been relocated from the Amana General Store to the Amana Society Main Office. The hours of licensing availability are Monday — Thursday 8 a.m. — 4:30 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. — noon.
Formal wear sought
The Iowa Valley FCCLA chapter is collecting formal attire to create a "Prom Closet" students can shop from prior to prom. They are seeking donations of prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses, suits, ties, shoes, and other formal wear.
Items can be dropped off at the high school from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. Contact Mrs. Sax at ssax@ivcsd.org or (319) 642-3332.
‘Kaffeestunde’ at Amana Heritage Museum
The Amana Heritage Museum will host “Kaffeestunde” in the museum auditorium each Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. through March 26.
This program aims to promote the use of the German language in the Amana Colonies and hopes to give a space for those interested in using the German language to be able to practice and hear it in use. Interested persons are invited to attend and encourage the use, appreciation and continuation of the German language.

Lake Iowa Nature Center
Visit Lake Iowa Nature Center (LINC) every first Saturday afternoon through May 2023. LINC will be open for you to explore inside, do some fun interactive activities, and learn about nature.
Each Saturday will have a different theme, and a program from 1-2 p.m. Dates and themes are:

March 4: Live salamander program
April: Spring is Here!
May 6: Fishing basics
Swaddling Clothes
Swaddling Clothes, a free children’s store, will be held the first Saturday of each month, from 9 a.m. to noon, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 780 Court Ave., Marengo, offering baby, children’s and maternity items. For more information, call (319) 642-5452 or visit swaddlingclothes.org.
