Montezuma students earn top honors in essay competitions
Montezuma Elementary students in grades third through eighth who earned top local honors in essay writing competitions were recognized at the Montezuma Veterans Day Supper on Nov. 11.
Students in third and fourth grades, along with sixth through eighth grades, enter essay competitions sponsored by the Montezuma VFW and Auxiliary. Students in fifth grade enter an essay competition sponsored by the Montezuma American Legion and Auxiliary.
Third grade students were asked to write an essay of 50-75 words on the subject of “I Love America, Because.”
Fourth grade students were asked to write an essay of 75-100 words on the subject of “What is Your Favorite Patriotic Holiday and Why?”
Fifth grade students were asked to write an essay containing 300 words or less on the subject of “What the United States Flag Represents to Them.”
Students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades participated in the Patriotic Pen competition and were asked to write an essay of 300-400 words on the subject of “My Pledge to Our Veterans.” Three students were chosen to advance to the state level in this class.
