Evangelism is essential to our Christian Faith

Evangelism is essential to our Christian Faith. Becoming a Christian does not make you a disciple; you are a disciple when you begin to reproduce yourself. Disciples of Christ will always produce more disciples of Christ. As you grow closer in relationship with Jesus, He will continue to stretch you in ways that will produce more fruit leading more and more to the One with the keys to the kingdom of heaven. This process can make you feel vulnerable, but don’t be afraid, it’s a good thing to grow!
From time to time lobsters have to leave their shell in order to grow. They need their shell to protect them, yet if they do not abandon it the old shell will become their prison – and finally their casket. We are not much different from lobsters. To change and grow we must sometimes shed our shells – our place of comfort that we have grown dependent on, our normal. Being a disciple means being so committed to Christ that when he says follow we follow, we will change, risk, grow, and leave our old “shells or whatever is holding us back” behind.
The church (which is the body of Christ) has a mission and the mission is to evangelize the world and make disciples of every nation, to worship the Lord, and to build a body of believers in the image of Jesus. Fairfield needs Jesus!
The purpose of evangelism is not to encourage people into our churches, great if they come and find family with us, but we want to encourage people into a right relationship with our Creator. If you had the cure to cancer, you would share it wouldn’t you? Well we all know the cure to eternal separation from God, that is something worth sharing!
Paul believed that when we share, it is best to speak plainly, allowing the Holy Spirit to shine through our words and speak to the hearts of those whom God wants to hear his story. He writes, 4 … my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. 5 I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God. (1 Corinthians 2:4-5).
Excitement follows when you know you have something wonderful to share! And we know that there are many within our reach who could use a little joy in their life. To know the peace that surpasses all of our understanding and to experience what unconditional love really is... And what better way could there be than to share what Christ has already done in your life and wants to do in theirs! Go share your story!
