Few things are as impactful in our lives as fathers. The type of Father we had determines the image we develop regarding our Heavenly Father, whether good or bad.
In John 14:7-9 Jesus makes a statement that should encourage us all whether we had a good father or not!
“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.” Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”
By Jesus saying this He was saying that everything He said and everything He did represents our Heavenly Father perfectly!
Imagine the kind of father who is always giving sacrificially, always does what is best for us, always encouraging, always comforting, always loving, never disappointed in us, never condemning, never judging, never rejects us!
Jesus came to correct the misrepresentation of our Heavenly Father.
Jesus came to restore the path back to the Father by removing any misconceived ideas about the Father. Our God is not a vague idea of a deity so far removed from us that He is unable to understand or identify with us.
Jesus made it clear when teaching about prayer that it is first and foremost about understanding we have the perfect Father ready and willing to connect and communicate with us!
I want to encourage us to examine the perception that we have of our Father in Heaven. If our perception or image we have of Him keeps us from running to Him and embracing Him daily then we need to let Jesus set us free from the lies of guilt, shame and condemnation!
The Father is waiting for us to embrace Him and enjoy an intimate relationship with Him!
