How do you know?

This past week I met a person at the bank of whom I struck up a conversation. While sharing I mentioned that the Lord led us to the States in 1997. He responded with the question How do you know it was the Lord?

This is a question dwelling upon. How does the Lord guide us? There are several answers.

One: Is the reading and being obedient to scripture. “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. “ Psalm 119:9.

Second; is seeking the Lord in prayer. “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. “Colossians 4:2. Notice the word to be watchful. Being spiritually alert, expecting signs and answers.

Does the Lord give us answers; absolutely. Again through scripture, prayer, people and even circumstances. Now I don’t believe in luck or coincidences. So when situations unfold the answer can be standing in front of you.

When first preparing to seek a church in 2007, I asked family and friends to pray about a church that I have always wanted to pastor in Franklin, Quebec. The request was about Franklin. Now! God has a sense of humor. The door to Franklin , Quebec closed. However, when we candidated at our present church, the road adjacent to our driveway is Franklin Avenue. Once again the Lord affirmed His guidance.

Thirdly, listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

“…these are the things God has revealed to us by His Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except the Spirit of God.” I Corinthians 2:10-11.

“The true and living God, the One who lives from eternity to eternity, desires more than anything that we humble ourselves and make Him our personal, one-and-only God. When we do that, He comes to us and lives within us, gives us direction and teaches us His ultimate truth.”(Tony Evans 2005),

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

James 1:5
