John 3:16
Love. Love is one of the most used and misused words in the English language. We use it to describe our feelings; sometimes we use it without any emotional feelings at all. We use it when talking about people, our animals, certain foods that we eat, movies that we watch, books that we read, sports teams, the church we attend, etc. We use love so often that we scarcely give thought to what we are actually saying.
There are three basic forms of love described in the Bible: physical, neighborly, and godly love. We are shown the love of God by God sending his Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins. It is an unconditional and sacrificial love. The Apostle Paul describes it in detail in I Corinthians 13:4-8a.
Jesus commanded us to love God with all of our heart, mind, and soul. He went on to say that we are to love our neighbors as we do ourselves. All of God’s laws fall under these two commands.
Can we honestly say that we are intense and intentionally in our love for God? I firmly believe that if we love God as we say that we do, we will spend more time reading and studying God’s Word, fellowshipping with God in prayer, and gladly serve instead of doing it out of a sense of duty.
Also, we would strive to not sin against God. God hates sin in our lives and so should we. Never forget, it is sin to say you love God and not really mean it.
