Matthew 11:11- Jesus said, “Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater that John the Baptist, but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.”
This scripture is pretty amazing when you consider all the Old Testament saints like Moses, David and all the prophets. Yet Jesus says truly John the Baptist is greater than all of them.
Why? All the Old Testament saints look forward to the coming Messiah, the Christ.
While John the Baptist not only laid eyes on Jesus, he also baptized Him in the Jordan River.
But John also watched Jesus walk away.
That brings us to the last incredible statement Jesus made, “But he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.”
Those who are least in the kingdom of heaven would be us, anyone who believes the good news of the gospel.
How could we be greater than John the Baptist whom Jesus declared greater than anyone born of a woman?
At least part of the answer is while the Old Testament saints looked for the coming Messiah, John the Baptist met the Messiah but Jesus also walked away from John.
But today those who believe in Jesus, He comes and lives in us.
In Christ we are a new creation in our spirits. And Jesus does not leave us or walk away.
Wherever we go, Jesus goes with us.
So today, be encouraged no matter what your present circumstances might be.
Greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.
Know that Christ in you makes you God’s beloved in whom He is well pleased.
All the Old Testament saints and John the Baptist could only dream of who we have living within us.
Jesus in us makes us worthy to be called God’s beloved.
