Rest!
The Bible speaks to every issue of life! Ecclesiastes 3:1 says“ There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
It seems some seasons of life are longer than others! There is a designated season for rest that God has built into our daily lives called sleep. However, this is not the only season of rest that God has for us.
As much as our bodies need rest there is rest needed for our spirit(the very core of what we are) and souls(mind, will and emotions).
Drama and stress take a toll on us in every way. These things wear us down emotionally and spiritually. A season of rest is needed to refresh and strengthen us!
Jesus offers us this rest. In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus says 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
First we must go to the source of rest, Jesus Himself.
Second we must embrace only the burdens that Jesus carries, to do the will of God.
Finally, we must learn from Jesus or choose to be a disciple of Jesus or a lifelong learner of Jesus!
Rest for the spirit and soul is released the moment we surrender our agendas, dreams and plans and pick up those of Jesus!
Lord, help us to arrive at the place of complete surrender so we can receive the promised rest!
