It seems our culture delights in staying busy, even in our attempts to find rest or relief from our labors. Some would prefer to keep laboring without rest.
But there is a promised rest that satisfies! Jesus said, ”Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.“
Jesus encourages all who are weary and burdened, first, to come to Him. I love that Jesus is a personal one on one God! His invitation is to seek Him first, not religion, but relationship! No one finds without seeking! Seeking starts by devoting ourselves to the study of the Bible!
Secondly, Jesus encourages those who are weary to let go of all the pressures that weigh heavily on us and take up what Jesus is concerned with. (Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and everything else will be added).
Thirdly, Jesus encourages us to learn from Him. Discipleship or being a lifelong learner of Jesus is not a once and done thing but a 24/7 365 day for life journey! To be a learner of Jesus requires that we know the Bible, the Holy Spirit and Jesus intimately. Jesus said “My sheep hear my voice and they follow Me!”
Finally, Jesus encourages us by reminding us that He is not a tyrant or overbearing master but a gentle and humble Savior! So come to Him and find the much needed rest for our mind, will and emotions! Rest that satisfies! “All that drink of this water shall never thirst again!”
Join me in renewing our commitment to seek Jesus first in everything, to be a lifelong learner of Jesus!
