The Rev. Kim Crummer has accepted an invitation to preach at the ecumenical worship service in the Family Tent at 10 a.m. Sunday morning, Sept. 1 during the Old Threshers Reunion. His message is titled, “Benefits of Prayer.”
Rev. Crummer grew up in Webster City. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Iowa State University, a Master’s degree in recreation education from the University of Iowa, and a Master of Divinity from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary.
Crummer served over 30 years as a minister in the United Methodist Church, with appointments in Mt Pleasant, Mystic, Cedar Rapids, Spencer, Missouri Valley, Monroe, and Correctionville. He retired in 2020 and bought a home with his wife, Dede, in Council Bluffs. Between them, there are 6 children, 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He stays active in ministry by filling in for pastors on vacation. He has also served as a youth group leader and has taken 18 mission trips to Native American Reservations.
Pastor Kim’s favorite hobby is SPORTS! He loves baseball, softball golf, and disc golf. He serves as an umpire for girls fast-pitch softball in the summer.
One of the most thrilling and dangerous times in ministry occurred during seminary when he spent an entire month in one of the poorest and most dangerous barrios in Mexico City. He has a book coming soon, Journey to Poverty, in which he tells about befriending one of the leaders of the largest gangs in Mexico City, and many more exciting experiences. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time!
The family tent hosts a variety of entertainment during the annual reunion. It is a favorite place to sit and rest a while in the shade, and to hear a variety of musical entertainment. Sunday morning it is the place for neighbors to gather for worship. The Old Threshers Reunion Choir adds to the service with a presentation of lively music during the worship time.
