Seeing Jesus through Covenant!
Parson to Person
Pastor Don Brown, First Assembly of God Mt. Pleasant

I remember hearing how years ago people made deals on a handshake and their words. No lawyers or contracts were required for people to honor their promises, and if the work they promised resulted in loss they still kept their promise, keeping their promise or words was more important than the pain or loss they would suffer.
There is a difference between a covenant and a contract. A contract is conditional upon both parties fulfilling their obligations, a contract is a temporal humanistic tool.
A covenant is eternal and binding because God Himself is the initiator, enforcer and protector of all covenants.
God initiated and enforces the covenant He made after Noah’s flood (the rainbow is the seal of that covenant!) Nothing is required of man or beast!
God initiated and enforces the covenant He made with Abraham and his descendants. Circumcision (an act of faith) was the seal of that covenant, it is how they enter into a covenant relationship with God.
Here is what our God and Father is like! He never leaves us without a covenant!
He knew the old covenant was only temporary and planned right from the beginning to initiate a newer and better covenant!
“But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.” Hebrews 8:6
The Bible is called “The last will and Testament of our Lord Jesus.” When someone makes out a will they name an executor to make sure their will and wishes are carried out.
Jesus was the one who died but also lives forever to enforce His will and wishes!
Covenant means if God promised, He will do it! Our part is called faith.
“And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” Hebrews 6:11-12
